It has been quite some time since my
last entry, but preparations are underway for another trip to
Ouagadougou in February to install the new bilingual software. My lovely time
spent in Galicia, Spain, walking the medieval pilgrim route of Saint
James from Sarria to Santiago de Compostella* was quickly followed by
a series of small setbacks—a broken wrist, having to postpone my
trip and change my plane reservations to Ouagadougou scarcely a week
after making them to accommodate extensive physical therapy, the
week-long kitchen renovation that has dragged out for six weeks and is still not done,
and then losing my passport with my multiple-entry Burkina Faso visa.

But the bilingual French-English
language software is almost completed and the final draft has been
downloaded to my computer for me to examine! For a moment, I feared
this installation was going to be a problem as well. Since my
92-year old father only has dial-up Internet access, the software was
downloaded via wifi at a McDonald's in Vernon Hills, Illinois, near my parents' home. After spending about an hour in a chat room
with the software developer, it finally became evident that the
firewall in ZoneAlarm, my anti-virus software, was preventing
me from opening the new software program! Praise God it is now up
and running! The final product should be ready tomorrow for
download.

Before leaving for Chicago, I spent two
Sundays helping out at the Mission Gifts for Christmas market at
National Presbyterian Church. The SIL Linguistics Library in
Ouagadougou was featured there along with a Wycliffe Bible
Translation project in the Kaansa language of southern Burkina Faso,
where Stuart and Cathie Showalter are finishing up their translation

We have had a fair amount of snow in the Chicago area with more expected so I hope my flight out is not affected when I leave tomorrow morning!
